Did you know that the (recently late 😢) Mutulu Shakur of the Black Panthers, and Tupac’s stepfather, opened the first Community Acupuncture clinic? Acupuncture has always been a grassroots/barefoot people’s medicine – now more than needed than ever.
While the idea of community (group) acupuncture may at first make some feel apprehensive, this style was how acupuncture was traditionally practiced for thousands of years, and there is certainly something deeply profound in sharing the experience less isolated with other napping comrades – you are not alone!
Besides Roots to Sky, my first acupuncture job was at Six Degrees Community Acupuncture – an LGBTQ+ owned clinic where I worked for 3 years. Here we focussed on low-income & underprivileged (and just curious!) peoples from all walks of life in the safest and coziest of spaces.
While I was certainly a young’un acupuncturist at the time, I also hosted numerous workshops and really challenged my (whiteboi) privileges by helping and learning from everyone: from the most marginalized of peoples, to people struggling with severe addiction, to people who simply didn’t want to share anything about their story and just wanted to quietly experience the powerful healing environment alongside others in silence.
I am exploding with excitement that I’m being called back to lead these sessions from my home & Community Launchpad!
Sessions are PWYC/sliding scale and 1 hour long with careful attention paid to your privacy. (Private space is often available for very sensitive sessions.) We connect for a brief 15 intake, and then you doze off seated in your chair. These sessions are perfect for those curious to try acupuncture or for those who need basic regular treatments but need more affordable/accessible options.
